2010 Loop Halloween Party

costumes
When I thought last year's Halloween party was awesome, this year totally blew it away.  The front lawn was converted into a haunted graveyard with animatronics everywhere.  Even the bathrooms were rigged.  The kitchen, living room, the backyard, and the dock were all decorated.
This year Jessica went as a witch.  I went as a mummy.  Jessica made my costume out of some long johns and cut up bed sheets.  It turned out really good.

2010 Thailand Day 15 - Last Day in Bangkok

Today was my last day in Bangkok.  Han went to work.  Dad, Mom, Hart, and I had lunch at Dairy Queen.  Then we dropped Mom off and went to the Mall.  I got some postcards and mailed them.

In the evening, Han joined us and we went to the airport.  I checked into Korea Air.  Then we had dinner at the food court.

We took some more pictures and said good bye.  Then I went inside.  I kept my phone on, so we were still able to talk up until I was on the plane.

It had been a great trip.  I enjoyed all my time with my family and look forward to the next time I get to come back.

2010 Thailand Day 14 - Pattaya

We slept in and checked out around 11am.  We had breakfast at the hotel and then drove around Pattaya.  We were going to see Underwater World Pattaya, but the price was too high for what was available.  So we just drove around and then went back to Bangkok.

We stopped at a mall along the way for lunch.  We had japanese noodles.

At night we (Mom, Hart, Han, and I) had dinner with my cousin Boy and his girlfriend, P'Pong and his mom at A. Mallika.

2010 Thailand Day 13 - Koh Larn

Today Dad, Han, and I went on a trip.  We drove to Pattaya and got on a boat over to Koh Larn.

We rented two scooter and drove around to different beaches on the island.  We also went up to the top of the island where we could see all around.

Riding the scooter was pretty scary.  On the flat and going up hill wasn't so bad.  The scooter had enough power.  But coming down was another story.  Some of the hills were so steep that I had to ride the brake the whole way down.  And some roads weren't paved.  Han hit a patch coming down one of the hills and fell off the scooter.  He got some cuts.  So we decided to head back to port and get some first aide for him.

After that we went back to the main land and had dinner at the Central Mall Festival.  We were going to see if we could find a local restaurant, but most within walking distance were bars and night clubs for tourists.  So we ended up eating at the mall.

After that we got a hotel at Ibis.  I found it on TripAdvisor.com.  It was reasonably priced and highly rated.  The room was a bit small, but clean and nice.  There was no wifi in the room, only in the lobby downstairs.

2010 Thailand Day 12 - Heading back to Bangkok

We spent the morning at the pool.  Since it was a Monday, the resort was pretty much empty.  Everybody had gone back to Bangkok.  We left around noon, had lunch along the way, and parted ways with P'Pong and his friends.

At night we had dinner at D-Zaap.

2010 Thailand Day 11 - Italian Town

Apparently there was an Italian town in the middle of the mountain.  And it was quite famous.  There were a lot of people visiting, walking about.  It was quite pretty and nice.  There was a fountain in the middle of the town, a lot of shops around the buildings, a garden off to one side, and a tower in one corner.  There even was a working sundial.

Next place we visited was Primo Posto, a vineyard.  There was a fake well in the middle, too.  Then we had lunch at a dairy place.  I had an ostrich steak.

In the afternoon we went to Thongsomboon Club.  It's a park with many different activities.  I did the Luge with Han, Phillip, and his girlfriend. Then we took the sky lift back up to the top.  I also went down a hill inside a giant ball.  It wasn't as cool as I thought.  They filled the inside with a lot of water to act as a protective layer.  When the ball rolls down, the water turns with it, but you stay right side up.  Han and I also went down a tube slide.

There were other activities that we didn't do: go kart, bumper boat, zip line, dune buggie, ATV, horse back riding, and a water ride.

We spent the evening back at the resort.  Phillip and his girlfriend left that night because he had to work Monday.

2010 Thailand Day 10 - Trip to Kao Yai

Today we were supposed to go on a weekend trip with my cousins.  But Hart changed his mind at the last minute and decided to stay home.  Dad dropped Han and I off at Pop's house and we rode up with him and his family.  The other cousins were meeting up with us later at the resort.

Kao Yai (means "Big Mountain") is a couple of hours north of Bangkok.  We stopped and had lunch at Farm Chokchai, a very famous ranch in Thailand.  We also took a 3 hour tour of the farm.  Han got to milk a cow during one part of the tour.  Asides from going around the farm looking at cows, we also got to ride horses, went on a wagon ride, saw an animal show, and went to a petting zoo.

In the evening, we met up with the rest of my cousins.  P'Pong's girlfriend Jae's family owns part of the resort.  So we were able to stay there at a deep discount.

We had dinner at a near by restaurant and then hung out at the resort.  P'Pong tried to sing karaoke, but nobody else was interested at the time.  We played a few games of Jenka.  Then we watched Ip Ma (a movie about Bruce Lee's master) and headed to bed.

2010 Thailand Day 9 - Dinner with Sok Lek

Today was pretty low key.  I didn't do much during the day.  In the evening Han and I went to dinner with my uncle Sok Lek and his family.

At night, we went to my dad's office to get a copy of Windows XP from the university to install on his new computer.

2010 Thailand Day 8 - Pantip Plaza

Today Han and I went to Pantip Plaza. It's an IT shopping mall, where the majority of the stores are computer related.  Most of the stores sell similar items.

We bought a custom built computer for my dad.  While waiting for it to be built, we went around and bought a wireless modem+router and some USB gadgets.

In the evening we had a family reunion.  We met up at my grandma's house and car pooled over to the restaurant.  It was great seeing everybody together.  After dinner we went back to my grandma's house.  I found some old pictures from when I was a kid.

2010 Thailand Day 7 - Siam Area

In the morning my dad and I went to see the office construction at Lad Prao.  It's a four story building with offices on the first and second floors.  The third and fourth floors are residential.

After Han got home from work, we set out to downtown.  Along the way I met our old neighborhood friend Pheng.  We grabbed a small bus/taxi from our street out to the main street.  Then we took a big bus over to the BTS (elevated train) and went to Siam Paragon.  We spent some time walking around trying to get a micro SIM for my iPhone.  We ended up getting one with AIS (the security guy at the store was very helpful) because Hart works at the AIS support center and he could help me if I run into any issue.

Afterward we checked out the Anime Fasta, saw an outdoor kick boxing match, went to the Bangkok's Arts and Cultural Museum, and a flea market near by.  Even close to midnight, there were a lot of people out and about.  There was even a section on the BTS walkway with a lot of street vendors out selling things.  I bought some Thai silk art for souvenirs.

2010 Thailand Day 6 - Around Bangkok

x Today Mom and I went out into Bangkok. We went on different types of transportations such as buses, trucks, taxi, and the BTS (elevated train).
First we went to a camera store to see if we can fix my camera (I dropped it a while ago and the LCD screen was broken). Turned out it wouldn't be that much cheaper than getting a new camera, so we didn't fix it.
x Next we went to get lunch at this restaurant outside a big shopping plaza. It was a small "hole in the wall" but very busy. (There are a lot of small "hole in the wall" types of shops in Bangkok. Almost every house turned their first floor into some kind of shop.) We had duck noodles there. Since it was busy, we shared a table with other people. When someone finished, they left and new customers would take the spot.
x In the evening, after Han came back from work, we went to get some paint and ordered some tiles at the Ceramic Center for the renovation at the house. The store was huge, kind of like a shopping mall in itself.
Then we went to get dinner at Crab Fried Rice.

2010 Thailand Day 5 - Back to Bangkok

Today we also woke up before sunrise. I went for a last swim. I climbed down the ladder since it was low tide. We had some breakfast and checked out.
x The taxi driver took us to a few places on the island for sight seeing before heading back to the dock. Then we went back to the main land. On the way back to Bangkok, we stopped to get some snacks/souvenirs. It's Thai custom to also bring back souvenirs (like candy, toys, etc, doesn't have to be much) for your family and friends whenever you go on a trip.
Later Hart went to see his friends. Mom and I had dinner with Dad and Han at D-Zaap restaurant. At night Hart and I stayed at a hotel near the house, because Dad's having a small renovation done at the house.

2010 Thailand Day 4 - Paree Hut

x We all woke up around 5am (hahaha). We got cleaned up and got ready. By sunrise, we went out to the beach and had some breakfast: fried eggs, bacons, and chocolate milk.
In the morning, Hart and I went up a hill to take pictures. Mom joined us for a bit, then she went back down and talked to some people, including the owner of the place. She likes talking to people.
x Hart and I continued to take more pictures. The scenery here was very pretty. There were cliffs and rocks to the sides, the mountains to the back, and the beach in the middle. The water was clear with a hint of green.
Next Hart and I rented a kayak. Mom didn't know how to swim, so she stayed back at the beach. The kayak owner told us there were some huts over to the left side of the beach. They were built for a movie set. After the filming was done, they turned the place into a resort. So we kayaked over to see it. It was almost surreal. There were bamboo huts sitting right along the edges of a rocky cliff. We saw people jumping off and swimming around.
After a couple of hours we went back to the beach and had lunch with Mom. We called our taxi driver from last night and asked him about the huts. He called them up and told us there were rooms available. So we got our stuff and went over. The place was Paree Hut.
x We rented two huts: one for Mom and another for Hart and me. This place was what I would imagine a tropical report to be. Everything was made out of bamboo or some kind of wood. There were boardwalks over looking the rocky cliffs. Sunbathing place over looking the water. A (heated?) pool in the middle of the resort. Each hut had a balcony in the front, with a walkway all the way around. Inside, there's one bed, a few windows, a sink room, and bathroom. There was also a fan, a mosquito net, and some outlets. But no AC or hot water.
x After we checked in, Hart and I jumped off the cliffs and went swimming. Initially the water was very calm. We swam around and hung out in the water. All the sudden we noticed the water was splashing against the rocks and the waves getting bigger. There were dark clouds above us and a storm was coming. We got worried and got out of the water.
We rented a fishing pole and caught a squid. We gave it to the kitchen staff and they made a dish for us. It couldn't get much fresher that this!

2010 Thailand Day 3 - Koh Sichang

Hart woke up at 6am and went to play basketball. I slept til 9am. After Hart came back, we had breakfast and checked out.
x Then we went back to the house. Mom and Han were there. Dad was on campus working. I got to see the new puppies, very cute! Hart, Mom, and I left on our road trip. Han stayed at home to over see the workers.
On the high way, some guy tail gated us and started honking. I guessed he wanted us to go faster. But instead of passing us on the fast lane, he had to be a jerk.
Another point on the highway, Hart noticed that the car's heat sensor was high. So we stopped at a gas station. After a few minutes the car was back to normal. And we didn't see anything wrong.
We got back on the road, but instead of taking the highway, we drove on the road under it. This allowed us to stay under the shade most of the way, and the speed limit was a bit slower. We wanted to make sure the car wouldn't over heat. And it was fine the rest of the way.
x When we got to Sriracha, we saw a sign for Sriracha Tiger Zoo. We made a stop and went to check it out. We got to see a tiger show, a crocodile show, and some other animals. There was one place where they had piglets and tiger cubs feeding from the same mama pig.
Around 1pm we decided to go get lunch. While we were driving around searching for a seafood place we saw a sign for Koh Sichang. Apparently it's supposed to be pretty nice, since both Mom and Hart had heard of it. So we changed the plan and went there instead of Koh Larn.
x We had lunch at this small restaurant on the pier. Then we parked the car and took a boat ride over to Koh Sichang.
When we got there, we got on a 3-wheeled taxi and drove around looking for a place to stay. The first place the driver took us too was pretty nice. It was overlooking a cliff. There was a nice area to see the ocean. But we wented to check out other places too.
The second and third places weren't that great. The fourth place was the only hotel next to the only beach on the island. It wasn't too bad. So we stayed here for the night.
After checking in, Mom went to sleep early. Hart and I went down to the diner and got some drinks and somne snacks. We chatted for a bit, then head back up and went to sleep. At 8pm...
