Today we went to Belize City, Belize. The water around Belize is quite shallow. Our cruise ship (and four other cruise ships) had to park six miles away from the dock and use tender boats. Since we've booked an excursion through the ship, we got priority getting off.
Our excursion today is "Cave Tubing and Rainforest Trek". We met at the dock and took an hour bus ride out to the middle of nowhere. Our tour guides were Roy and Edgar, the "Lion" brothers.
When we arrived at the spring/river, there were already a lot of other people from other cruises. So our guides decided to change it up a little and had us eat first (instead of after tubing). Then we broke into four groups of eight: each guide per group. We had to wait a bit for two other guides to show up. Jessica and I went with Roy.
We got our tubes, life vests, and hard hats with LED lights. Then we did the "Rainforest Trek": we carried our tubes into the jungle for a mile. At the end of the trek, we started our tubing at the entrance of a cave. There were nine caves total. We went through three: one while walking, and two while tubing.
During tubing, we were put into two lines, four deep. Each two holding the feet of the two behind, keeping everybody as one so Roy can guide us around the caves and the rapids. It was a bit uncomfortable at first, but we got used to it, and it wasn't too bad. The caves were huge inside. I tried to take some pictures and videos. Some were too dark. Once we got outside, it was pretty nice. We floated back down to the beginning.
On the way back, our tender boat had a rough time connecting to the cruise ship. They tried about 10 times before succeeding. They had to turn around and try boarding from another side. They actually ripped the docking rope apart (about 2-3 inches in diameter; it was loud and startling). They "bumped" into something a few times. And about three other boats the came after us had already finished dropping off their passengers.
In the evening, we went to watch Band on the Run, a Jean Ann Ryan show. We got there early enough to snagg a couple of seats in the third row. Pretty nice.
Overall, Jessica and I both agreed that even though today was fun, we enjoyed our kayaking trip in Phuket more.
